Thoroughly MN-winter-bundled and booted up, awkwardly weighed down by my gym and computer bags, arms flailing dramatically, I “run” through drifts of un-shoveled sidewalk and skate across an icy intersection, shamelessly chasing down the bus approaching my bus stop, still a quarter of a block away.
I glance down at my obnoxiously-orange winter coat and smile thinking,
“Awesome. This color will finally pay off. There is no way the bus driver can miss this!”
I forge on as the bus pulls over and a passenger gets off.
“Double awesome! They FOR SURE see me. Its confirmed when they do a double take.“
I know I’m quite a sight, but it will be worth it not to miss this bus! Then my luck takes a turn for the worse. I watch as the newly released passenger gives me another curious look, turns back to the bus with its blinker on, ready to merge into the non-existent 5:55am traffic, and then calmly trudges away.
No call to the driver on my behalf.
No wave, or head nod in my direction to signal pause for a frantic passenger approaching.
Our fellow commuter bond does not run as deep as imagined. The bus no longer in sight, I am left humbled. Well at least I got some bonus cardio in and have an understanding colleague!
The moral of this story is don’t hit snooze because despite your most valiant efforts, you just may be desperate to trade back those minutes later on! Lol.
Happy Monday y’all. ![]()
